The journey

The tour traces a broad loop through central, southwestern, northern and northeastern Bangladesh. It begins in Dhaka, continues through Sonargaon to the Sundarbans, turns north by rail toward Rajshahi and Bengal's archaeological heart, then finishes among the rainforests and tea gardens of Srimangal before returning to Dhaka.

The shape of the journey is city → mangrove wilderness → ancient kingdoms → tea hills.

Activity level & suitability

Moderate.

Boat days offer periods of rest, and the private format allows the guide to adjust walking distances and pace. Guests with specific mobility requirements should discuss them before booking.

Essential trip information

Visa and travel documents

Entry rules depend on nationality and can change. Confirm current requirements with an official Bangladesh mission before travel. The tour team can provide supporting booking documents where appropriate.

Currency, language and time

The local currency is the Bangladeshi Taka. ATMs are available in major cities, while cash is useful for markets and tips. Bengali is the national language, and your English-speaking guide assists throughout. Bangladesh uses UTC+6.

Electricity and connectivity

Bring a universal power adapter. Hotels generally provide Wi-Fi, while mobile coverage becomes limited inside the Sundarbans. Standard houseboats use solar lighting and operate a generator for limited evening charging.

Weather and clothing

Pack light, breathable clothing, sun protection and a light layer for cooler evenings. Modest clothing is expected at religious sites; shoulders and knees should be covered, shoes are removed where required, and women may need a scarf at mosques.

Health and insurance

Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is strongly recommended and is not included. Ask a qualified travel-health professional for advice appropriate to your health and itinerary. Drink bottled or properly filtered water.

Trains and houseboats

Train delays and class changes can occur. The guide travels with guests and arranges the best available seats. Standard Sundarbans boats are comfortable but simple, with limited electricity and no air-conditioning unless an A/C upgrade is booked.

Wildlife and optional walking

Wild Bengal tiger sightings are rare and never guaranteed. The Sundarbans remains rewarding for deer, crocodiles, birds and the mangrove landscape. Guests who prefer not to join longer walks may remain aboard for a quieter canal cruise.

What to bring and cultural respect

Recommended items include comfortable walking shoes, rain protection, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars and a camera. Ask before photographing people and follow your guide's advice in communities and religious places.
